Seriously, we wonder: can blogging, reviewing and publishing industry get even more dangerous? This week it's not just about people getting hate mail threatening legal action for, we are guessing, writing about romance novels and being a woman or receiving cease and desist letters for reviewing a book whose title was apparently trademarked (or something). A reviewer and agent was actually physically attacked! Suddenly those reveals of personal information by the site that shall not be named become even more disturbing. There are just too many psychologically unstable people out there. Let's all be extra vigilant.

In the news less disturbing, this post reveals something that we already know - 55% of YA Books Bought by Adults. We wouldn't be surprised if this number were even higher in reality, because quite a few adults are too ashamed to admit they love "books for kids." In this light, this next assertion might have some basis - Is Young Adult Fiction The New Chick Lit? From our experience, many readers of chick lit or women fiction migrated happily to YA, especially romantic YA.

Man Booker announced its short list and simultaneously made it clear that this year the prize's judges are  interested not in readable novels, but rather experimental. My (Tatiana's) interest in reading the finalists completely evaporated. Can't readability and quality go hand in hand? Or any critically acclaimed book is supposed to be only understood by select special few?

If you want to vent your hate for some persistent book-related trends, stop by Clear Eyes, Full Shelves and add to their awesome list.

Even if you despise Amazon and its practice, you still might want to test their newest offering - Whispersync. This feature basically offers ebook/audiobook bundles and promises seamless switch from ebook to audio. At the very least you can use this promotion to download some free audiobooks of classics. The list of the books offered for free is here.

And in conclusion, a couple of links related to our favorite authors.

Melina Marchetta answers questions over at Cuddlebuggery (plus a giveaway of Quintana of Charyn).

Laini Taylor posts her book tour schedule and answers a few questions as well on her own blog. Entertainment Weekly gives access to the first 3 chapter of Days of Light and Starlight.

Thanks for the Laini Taylor news bit. She's hitting my hometown at a local bookstore I haven't visited quite yet. Plus she comes right around my birthday. What an awesome news update. =)

I totally agree about the points about the MBP. I'm currently making my way through the longlist for blog challenge with a friend (progress hasn't been great so far because of uni and actually getting hold of the books) and I am finding most of the novels very hard to read and understand - but maybe that's just me? I am, however, having fun matching each book to a Beatles song :)

I've read a few Booker books that I liked, but I've also read a few that were hardly readable or enjoyable. However, if the judges are intentionally looking for something "challenging," what are the chances of this something being accessible to an average reader like me? Slim, I suspect.
